I think I’m about as sick of OS 6 talk and themes as every other BlackBerry device owner out there. Or at least I was until BerryMobi popped up with BBredux! Last week, Rezn posted up his review of the Storm version for our Berryfication readers. Soon after that review, BerryMobi released the theme for 89xx, 96xx, and 97xx BlackBerry devices.
Seeing as themes differ greatly for touch and non-touch devices, Rezn and I figured it would be good to do a tag team review on this theme. So after a weeks worth using and abusing….I’m impressed! The quality and craftsmanship performed by BerryMobi has definitely hooked me. The homescreen can initially look very busy when you first activate it. However, once you get to customizing your icons, you will be blown away by the functionality. At the top, clicking on the Battery indicator bring up options, Clicking on the clock brings you to the alarm, and clicking on signal will bring you to connections.
There are 2 icons beneath the battery and signal indicators. One is the profile icon and the other on the right side is customizable (great spot for a weather application of your choice!). There are 2 custom built, non-customizable 3 icons docks. On the left you have messages, calendar, and sms. On the right of the homescreen, you have a media section. Holding the Music, pictures, and video icons. At the bottom is a sliding dock that holds up to 8 icons per screen. Making this a dual homescreen. I choose the version without the hidden today area. The wallpaper that is embedded in BBredux is a cool and refreshing blue to green underwater adventure. The call and application screens are kept in line with the overall design and layout that fully compliments the developers ideology.
The icons in the non-touch version are slightly altered from the touch version. They are crisp, clear, and are refreshing to the eye. The only subtle differences are in color. For instance, on the touch screen versions, the sms icon has a blue dialog box. On the QWERTY devices, it is an orange dialog box. They just look absolutely beautiful on my Tour 9630. Another cool built in feature….they have included the Alt + # to hide all the homescreen icons and Alt + * to show all the homescreen icons. The sliding bar at the bottom is so perfectly made that you can even place 3rd party applications and not have to worry about having an oversized-rogue icon.
So if you are one of those theme addicts, that have been looking for an OS 6 style theme that will keep you interested and make you want to show off your device…..This. Is. It!
