Business Card Reader by SHAPE Services is one intelligent product to own, well maybe. Judging from the pictures, features & all the great reviews about this application seems like a solid product for anyone with a lot of business cards.
I think I’ve been sitting on this Review for 2 months now. Give or take a week or two. Plus I have used other products by SHAPE and they have been wonderful, almost always doing what they claimed to do. However this gorgeous looking application has not once done for me what it claims to do. Please note also the strict guidelines “Disconnect your BlackBerry from PC.” “Important: Take pictures in landscaped orientation, with wide side of your device matching the wide side of the business card.” “Put the card on a flat surface.” “Good lighting is a key factor. At least a bright desk lamp or direct sunlight on a sunny day is necessary.” Okay you get the point right. This is one heck of a do’s and don’ts to follow. Please imagine I did all these things to the best of my abilities. And yet over around 6 weeks of owning the application not once has it performed for me in any way that it promises. After always many trials ending all in incomplete errors I have always realized it’s much easier and quicker just to hand type in the contact inf0 and move on. Therefore giving the fantastic “looking” application another chance. Well I gave one too many.
And for the complete fairness of the company/Developer I have attempted to contact them on two occasions but received no reply. Too bad though. Not everyone has time to write every little email back right? Well no that’s not true either. I will say I didn’t approach with an issue I approached letting them know we wanted to review this application. Maybe an update is in it’s future and if so then I will update the Review if some improvements are made. I also didn’t try this product on anything but a 9550/5.0.0.713 and 9550/5.0.0.607 maybe it works with non-touch devices? Well I only got one license as well.
