Another emacberry update! This time it’s Iconify. The efficiency application allows users to create access links to their most commonly accessed applications, contacts, websites, and files.

What’s New/Fixed?
- Create an Iconify ApplicationLink to any existing installed application on your BlackBerry® Device.
- Specify a custom image for the Application or use the default Application Icon.
Please note, that most of the Core BlackBerry Applications (like Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Clock, etc.) does not come with own Application Icons – most of these “Core”-Apps gets their Icon from the current active Theme. Unfortunately there is no access (for a 3′rd party application) to these Theme icons – so you need to specify a own image.
- Specify an custom name or use the default generated (depending on your settings the default application name.
Creating ApplicationLinks can be done via the Iconify-Options in the Edit IconifyLinks section. There you will find a Menu Item called ‘Add IconifyApplicationLink’ which will open a Application-Chooser. Please note that you can filter the list and hide the System (Core) Applications. This makes it much easier to find your individual installed 3′rd Party Applications.
Please Note, that not all listed System Apps can be actual launched – some of them require additional parameters & configurations that are only known by RIM. - Specify a custom image for the Application or use the default Application Icon.
- For all Iconify Links you have the option to include the link in the global BlackBerry Menu – this will make the Link available always (in any application) via the BlackBerry Menu.
- Additionally to be able to include each Link in the Menu you have to option to specify a HomeScreen Hotkey for your link – so you can launch the link directly from the HomeScreen by a single click on your BlacBerry keyboard (not available for Storm & Strom2 – sorry).
Please note that this functionality have some restrictions:
- For OS6 you have to activate the ‘Application Shortcuts’ (this can be done in the Home Screen Preferences – Launch by Typing)
- For other OS (except Storm/Storm2) you have to disable the the ‘Dial from Home Screen’ Option in the Phone Options
- Some of the chars are already in use by the core BlackBerry applications (like ‘O’ (for Options) or ‘M’ (for Messages)) – so the number of available HomeScreen hotkeys is limited and you can’t assign a hotkey for all of your Iconify links’.
- Support for new BlackBerry Devices 9900 & 9850
- Contact Pager-Number can be used
- False “Used on Multiple Device message” fixed
Ever look for you PlayBook in the midst of the night, early morning or when it’s nestled closely near you and wish it had something like the Bedside Mode we’ve grown accustomed to and not then black screen or jumbled mess of tabs open? Well then maybe Cassandra Stand – News and Clock is just the solution!

Searching for something striking in BlackBerry App World the other I stumbled onto this gem from cross-platform developer Small Screen Design. And at just $1.99, this was a great buy.

I had no idea what I was diving into when I choose to purchase The Land of Me the other day. The description reads: “Imagine a beautiful children’s book where the characters are alive and where the choices you make have dramatic results. In this award-winning early learning adventure, children encounter a magical world full of loveable characters.” I just had to see for myself.

Made in Me has brought their enchanting interactive story into the BlackBerry PlayBook and the result quite nearly brought tears to our eyes.. My 3 boy’s Kellin (5), Oliver (5), Ashby (8), and I sat down and played through the stories first chapter over and over again.

Smarter Apps must eat sleep and breath BlackBerry. They’re really dominating both devices and the PlayBook tablet. Their latest product is a guitar simulator application for the BlackBerry PlayBook titled Guitar Star!

The Guitar Star application gives you that real guitar feel while letting users switch from 6 different styles for those very distinct sounds.
Kisai Labs has been working hard on these updates for their BlackBerry PlayBook Twitter client Blaq! I’ve had the liberty of testing each of them and giving my feedback including suggestions. Hamrick & Carty are one awesome duo.

I have a soft spot for high quality products, great GUI, and passionate Developers. Kisai Labs took the front seat and worked directly the Dev testers on this project. It took a handful of builds but I think v1.1 is the best Twitter client out on the PlayBook!
