drkapprenticeDESIGNS is a beast when it comes to theme design. He follows his own set of rules. He reinvents designs. He’s makes awesome products. And he has a killer cult following. His latest theme is JellyBerry with current compatibility for BlackBerry Bold 9900, 9930 & 9981 on OS7 & 7.1.

BlackBerry 7/7.1 themes with custom homescreen create a bug that makes Folders useless. Is this a deal breaker? No. Why? Because you can still get to the apps not showing in your Folders. 1.) You can use Universal Search. 2.) Prior to activating the theme or while on a tray style theme you can move all the apps out of your folders and onto the homescreen. 3.) You can use a third party app like ShortcutMe or QuickLaunch to get to 1st-party and most 3rd-party apps.
Now if you couldn’t tell by the name or the main image JellyBerry is the look of Android 4.1 on your BlackBerry Bold. The spicy kick of a hidden widget control screen caught me off guard. Icon 1 in your homescreen will immediately be hidden. Access to the widget controls are found on the bottom right hand side of your screen. Go here to pick placement for your 1st icon. The idea is to put your weather app or favorite app here.
The theme looks great. There’s no question that Doug has a lot of talent. Do you like the look of Android on your BlackBerry? If the answer is yes, then this theme is for you. He’s added great enhancements like a fluorescent focus, ability to hide your homescreen dock, move time & date to the right side, left side or center. Place your 1st icon on the left or right, get access to your Managed Connections from the top notification bar and more.
Biggest win using an Android 4.1 style theme is that you’re still using a Bold on OS7.x. No you don’t have to change the way you use your phone. It’s still a BlackBerry. But it’s a nice change of pace. Be it custom themes or tray style, drkapprentice brings a unique touch to the UI and feel every time!
