Wow. Is it fair to start a review off with how much I love this company already? Will the review sound biased because the support and individuals behind the product wear their hearts on their shoulders? Why not read it and find out.
Well to be honest for any product I do think the support should be fantastic. When you have a product that you have questions or issues with should the company ignore you or give you the support email, move you along to their customer service dept and not resolve the issue directly users will tend to feel like their service holds little value to you.
I could name 4 accessory makers that have done this to our readers, friends on social networks and even me. But I won’t. Let’s be honest the mobile industry just doesn’t have a very good reputation with support nowadays. So getting excellent care is something that can really resonate.
ChillBed Industries is an awesome company. From the moment I began following them on Twitter @chillbeds for their company & @ChillTab for the products specifically the one reviewed here, I got an immediate response! A DM came to one of our Twitter accounts. It was a pre-hello to their introduction letter which would be received later. So I felt like we were already close to the company and would be given the support we might require for a review unit. The feeling from them was warm in every aspect.
Fast forward about 1 week or so, and I’m un-boxing the ChillTab 2 Universal Tablet Stand. Now I may not be a Canadian, but I have grown quite fond of them considering companies like Communitech, Hootsuite, Research In Motion etc. ChillBed Industries Ltd hails from Vancouver Canada. Their ChillTab 2 Stand was designed and built right there in Vancouver, complete with a made in Canada seal (sticker) precisely placed beneath the product. This is a great product too.
The ChillTab 2 is a nice cool slab of aluminum. Designed to hold your PlayBook very sturdy in either landscape or portrait. I found it quite nice that the stand takes heat off the actual tablet. Between the cool aluminum and opening on below the tablet you’re always holding a lower temp while using it. Keep in mind this stand is universal and will work great with your iPad, Kindle Fire, NOOK, Android tablets etc. They left no details out. The metal sits on 4 firm rubber pads. So no matter where it’s placed I have had no issues with slips or spills.
Kind of a cool fact about the company: Adam Berson is a cabinet maker by day. He originally started this company because he wanted someway to hold his MacBook up while working but still keeping the laptop cool while working in his shop. So he & Co designed this simple yet elegant stand that would take heat off the MacBook being made from aluminum.
The look of the stand is a clean powder coated jet black anodized finish. It doesn’t enhance fingerprints or dust. We’ve been using our PlayBook’s in the kitchen a lot and the ChillTab 2 is by far the number choice in our house for these events. As a matter of fact I now keep it on the coffee table so whoever gets dibs first is the one who pulls it nearest them.
Now the final element is how well does it hold the tablet up? Very well. The tablet is perched up approximately 5 inches. This is higher than any other stand I’ve tried thus far. It works out better like this since my lady and I are both tall. No need to crouch down to see the PlayBook. And the precious PlayBook (tablet) sits on a high quality sponge-like foam. The 2 aluminum pieces that hold the foam are firmly screwed into the aluminum stand. It’s just a wonderful product. And with the built and designed in Canada awareness makes for a product that to me was built with love and care. That’s a product I want to hold my $200.00 + products.
The price is reasonable at $34.99 plus shipping and handling. I can’t argue with hand made either. If you don’t have a stand or might think one could be beneficial to you either way I have to recommend checking out chillbeds.com. They make a handful of other stands for MacBooks, laptops, tablets etc. Really quality work here.
