Region Theme by BT Design

My ever increasing enthusiasm in BlackBerry Theme Development lies smack dab in the palms of such awesome developers as BT Design.  Their latest offering entitled “Region” centers the home screen around the WeatherBerry hot-spot and draws major eye sparklers with it.

A medium gray backdrop is the base at home, plus inside the applications,  your out matched by the Neon icon-set along with nice neon under light at each icon while you hover.

Explicit Theme by Hedone Design

Enter the stage, Hedone Design BlackBerry theme developers, and one of their latest installments in utter perfection. I said before and I’ll say again only once in a while is there a theme like Explicit that comes along and for many is unparalleled in comparison to any other BlackBerry Smartphone theme on the market.

HD, which has become like the Nintendo seal of approval is to gaming but Hedone Hawker’s seal for theme design. Aka HedoneDesign.

FaceOff Application by BigTinCan

FaceOff is hot new App for giving yourself a little R & R. And moreover putting the “shh..” to your BlackBerry Smartphone. Designed specifically as a cool new way to use the accelerometer in 9500 device series Smartphones to control the ringtone and vibrate in accordance with the devices orientation.

Tired of grabbing your BlackBerry in the middle of an important dinner because the ringer is sounding off like fire alarm?  Big Tin Can and the “stay mobile” slogan have something to say about that. With a wonderfully simple user interface, they’ve placed the user-in-mind. Set up is a breeze. Once you start the app it actually auto starts, go into the two panels set up a couple options and your done. The app will always just run itself automatically any time you do a battery pull.

UltiMatte Nano Theme by Ninja Themes

UltiMatte Nano is a yes sporting iPhone-replica icons, and UltiMatte Nano is Yes a theme of the highest calliber. From a red carpet “only” BlackBerry Theme Developer known to many as one name, and disguised to the masses as another. Ninja Themes evokes a type of film noir essence as he marches parades of happy cult followers around his heavy humor and always witty Twitter personality.

For safety purposes I won’t reveal names to follow on Twitter but I will reveal one kick ass theme to the Theme junkies, beta snatchers, and app update notifiers that fill the heart in me.

I first met the one they call “Ninja” whilst following a ReTweet thread by the awesome Vicky P. and I landed on a merry-go -round in heaven. Ninja Themes, a polite conductor at first took a couple swigs of his juice pack and he told me that he’d do me a solid if I did him one back. And I’ve forever been chasing the cat since.

iLock(ed) you out because iLoveU.

It’s for your own protection, dear… really….

There are far too many “locking” applications for the Blackberry and, frankly, none that fit the bill of “fast and easy to deal with.” For anyone who has read my bio (I see you), you know that technology that does not perform, “gets the hammer.” Interestingly enough this application performed above my initial expectations (which is difficult considering I was expecting it to cure world hunger and rid my television of Carrie Prejean and John and Kate). It is simple to operate and fast to engage.

FAON Theme by Hedone Design

“Faon” – The name sounds like some strange, foreign, powerful, ancient GOD, and you need to make sure you say GOD as that you are wielding a scepter.

“Faon” – The name sounds like some strange, foreign, powerful (yet, somehow sexy and strangely attractive) ancient (and potentially EEEEVIL – say it out loud with me – EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL) GOD, and you need to make sure you say GOD as that you are wielding a scepter (with a huge stone –and let’s not forget LOTS AND LOTS OF SKULLS – who doesn’t LOVE skulls – carved into it).

But… It means “Fawn” or “Faune” (the mythical creature, who sadly, doesn’t have that previously mentioned scepter…or…even MORE sadly…the skulls…I like skulls).

Looking at it when I first installed I thought – what the *hell* am I supposed to do with THIS? TRUST ME – it’s not nearly as complicated as it looks (keep in mind that I have the mechanical aptitude of a jellyfish, which as you know, generally, don’t work as mechanics, FYI) and less patience than a brown bear (I am from Alaska – I know this).

“It will be difficult to find a similar theme on the market” is an understatement. “Elecite” is the *ONLY* other theme designer of this caliber (keep in mind, *with* Hedone, this makes TWO thus far – I am not saying that others are untalented, but Hedone and Elecite are the “standard by which others are judged” and I, as one who has put out FAAAR too much money on themes, know this firsthand) and even THEY don’t have anything LIKE this. *I* always try and keep an eye out for anything interesting or different (and, at the same time, will keep me from EATING my Blackberry – not terribly tasty…don’t believe me? Take a lick and get back to me…).

iGallery – Screensaver Du Jour

iGalleryI am not big on the idea of screen-savers for phones and, let us be honest here, unless you are planning on putting your Blackberry up on a shelf as an over-priced digital photo-frame, what you are going to have IS a screen-saver.

However, if you have the time, the money and the inclination and/or training to deal with such things, iGallery is for you.  It is the least expensive of these apps (Free is such a marvelous price and I find it to be my favorite price) and performs well and without glitch.  It runs on my 9700 without missing a beat and grabs any pictures from whatever directory you choose.

Whereas many Blackberry apps require teams of engineers to help you to get it up and running, iGallery is simple and straight-forward.  If you can’t figure it out, then perhaps it’s time to go back to the home and let one of the nice people in the lovely white uniforms assist you. I like it and I think you may as well.

Pros:  Easy, easy, easy and did I mention free?

Cons:  Could have more options for transitions, fades and/or wipes, but again it’s free.

Get it here!

Republika by Cocky Culture

Looking back over the vast majority of Premium themes produced by Cocky Culture, you will find a comfort in certain things i.e. innovation, color, a dare to be different. Well this theme, Republika, is one of those themes!

It stands apart from the hum drum of life and really represents the Cocky Culture style. It is bold in the color, Bright sun, against a gritty backdrop of red and black. Giving you the feeling that you are taking on a hip overall feeling rather than slapping some pretty picture onto the wallpaper of your phone.

miPhone PINK Theme by CockyCulture

CockyCulture’s recent addition to a vast majority of different theme interfaces is miPhone a device knock-off as CC has coined them. Hot pink and cooler than a replica since Cocky’s style added quite a twist to the IPhone wave of BlackBerry themes.

His previous miPhone and miPhone BLACK appealed more to a male demographic. BLACK is still in Hot rotation for myself as well as is many others.

Well there is one thing that Tony never forgets to do often and that is, take care of the ladies. I notice many times that everyday female BlackBerry owers know Tony by name and CockyCulture. They make up a great deal of BlackBerry Smartphone owers so why wouldn’t a premium developer want to cater to them.

HedoneDesign Chryom – When Art Becomes Power

On April 12, 2010, in Premium Themes, Theme Reviews, by Khorsia

I have sat here staring at this screen for the last fifteen minutes wondering where, specifically, to begin on this review. Not many things really impress me and, certainly, even fewer leave me somewhat stunned. Form and function usually do not merge well with art – one or the other is a dominator and, even if slightly, negates the effect of the other.

You will find many beautiful things in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), but you won’t find many of them to be terribly useful outside of their artistic qualities and most wireless devices fall squarely into this as well. Many devices are beautiful but aren’t functional beyond that wherein the Blackberry’s only real beauty has laid squarely within its pure functionality. True, the operating system has become more and more refined over time, but beautiful is not, necessarily, a word I would associate with it. Theme designers have done everything they can to alleviate the banality of the day-to-day Blackberry “experience,” but too many have left in pieces of the original to give you the feeling of esotericism that should come with a true and full theme change. We live in a new age with these devices, their capability bordering on pocket-sized supercomputers and, finally, beauty has come to the new age of power.
