Research In Motion had previously mentioned that App World v3.1 would be available on December 15th, but yesterday, they gifted 3.1 version in the Beta Zone for us to try as an early Christmas present. Initially, it was released with 3.1.0.38, but quickly received another update to 3.1.0.40. So, as with all beta’s, there will be new versions until the bugs are worked out.
The new version features include:
- Requesting a Gift – You can request and/or gift apps to your BBM friends available from within App World.
- Content Rating and Filtering – New rating abilities allow content providers to indicate the maturity level of their content and let users filter results based on their desired maturity level.
- WiFi Only Support –App World will now allow users access when using a WiFi only connection.
- New Language Support – App World 3.1 now supports simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Dutch.

I gave RIM a really hard time about this one I’ll admit. Avatar Builder his & hers had just released prior to BlackBerry 7.0 phones hitting the market, and the app hit the ground running! Users loved it. Well the wait is over now because Avatar Builder is once again for all BlackBerry devices!
