BLACKBERRY WILL MAKE ITS FIRST EVER SUPER BOWL APPEARANCE!

I have been talking about the importance of RIM getting a Super Bowl commercial for a couple years now. But more recently some friends (fellow BlackBerry enthusiasts) and I have been pondering the chance of RIM making this dream come true with BlackBerry 10.. And they have!

Check out what RIM has to say about it below! Can’t wait to see the new commercial(s), airing in the US and Canada on Super Bowl Sunday.

January 25, 2013 – Today Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM)confirms that BlackBerry 10, its new mobile computing platform that will power the next generation of smartphones and tablets, will be featured in a commercial during Super Bowl XLVII.

This confirmation kicks-off a week of worldwide launch activity for RIM’s BlackBerry 10 platform, along with the first two devices to run on the new platform. These activities are part of a broad integrated marketing campaign to support the global rollout of BlackBerry 10. In addition to the 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl that will air in both the U.S. and Canada, BlackBerry will be integrated into a number of pre- and post-game on-site, digital and social activities, including real time engagement with BlackBerry social fans on Facebook and Twitter, as well as extending and amplifying exposure and fan engagement through Promoted Posts and Sponsored Story ads.

“A Super Bowl commercial, is a great opportunity to show the re-designed, re-engineered and re-invented BlackBerry to tens of millions of consumers on the largest advertising stage of the year,” said Frank Boulben, Chief Marketing Officer, Research In Motion. “BlackBerry has 30 million social media fans, and we’re looking forward to continuing to encourage them and all NFL football fans to see the power of BlackBerry 10 for themselves.”

[NEW in App World] BBM 7 with BBM Voice – Now Available

Those of you who love testing BlackBerry official apps aren’t new to the BBM 7 with BBM Voice update. However the latest update is v7.0.0.126 (official), is slightly newer than the last beta version you downloaded from the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

Some fun facts
:
1. RIM surveyed BlackBerry users who tried the BBM 7 beta and over 80% said they would recommend it.
2. In the same survey 90% of testers said they would use BBM Voice while traveling to keep in touch.
3. Nearly half of BBM users have international contacts and can benefit from FREE Wi-Fi calls.

NEW in BBM 7 with BBM Voice

  • Multi-tasking with Split-screen feature – Customers can do more while they talk, such as check other BBM text chats, check email, or navigate to other apps while engaged on a BBM Voice call. They can start a call in an instant, and switch between texting and talking, or text and talk at the same time. They can also for example, send a picture to a contact while they are talking with them.
  • ·         Clear Visual Indicator – Customers can see when contacts are available for a voice call.
  • ·         Convenient Compatibility with Accessories – Customers can use their favorite accessories, such as a Bluetooth® or wired headset, or use the BlackBerry smartphone’s speakerphone.
  • ·         16 New Emoticons – Available in the final software released today, customers will see a slate of new emoticons offer them fresh, fun ways to express themselves in text chats.
  • ·         Direct BBM Update Notification – BBM will now notify a customer when there is an update from within the app, and allow them to download it immediately from inside the app.
  • ·         Simple BlackBerry ID Synchronization – A customer’s BBM profile, Groups and Contacts are now linked to their BBID for easy backup and restore. The data will also carry over when they move to BlackBerry 10.

BBM 7 with BBM Voice is now available for all BlackBerry smartphones running the BlackBerry 6 OS or higher. BBM Voice will also be available for BlackBerry OS 5 early next year. The BBM 7 software update can be downloaded for free at appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/3729/.

For more information about BBM, please visit www.blackberry.com/bbm.

* BBM requires a BlackBerry service plan. The BBM Voice feature requires a Wi-Fi connection with access to the Internet and may not be available in all markets. BBM Contacts must also be on BBM 7.0 and connected to Wi-Fi to have a BBM Voice chat.

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

BlackBerry 10 Launch Event to be Held on January 30th, 2013

Waterloo, ON – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) announced today that it will hold its BlackBerry® 10 launch event on January 30th, 2013. The event will happen simultaneously in multiple countries around the world.  This day will mark the official launch of its new platform – BlackBerry 10, as well as the unveiling of the first two BlackBerry 10 smartphones.  Details on the smartphones and their availability will be announced at the event.

“In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs.  Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities.  All of this will be integrated into a user experience – the BlackBerry Flow – that is unlike any smartphone on the market today,” said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of Research In Motion.  “Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10.  We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world.”

BlackBerry 10 will offer a large catalog of the leading applications from across the globe and across all categories, including Games, Productivity, Social, Lifestyle and Leisure, Multimedia and Published Content, as well as applications designed for business and enterprise use.

The BlackBerry® 10 platform has recently achieved FIPS 140-2 certification, which means that government agencies will be able to deploy BlackBerry 10 smartphones and BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 10 as soon as it is available.  This marks the first time BlackBerry products have been certified ahead of their launch.  In addition, RIM recently announced that BlackBerry 10 smartphones have now entered more than 50 carrier labs with many more entries expected in the coming weeks.

Some key features of the new BlackBerry 10 devices already unveiled recently include:

BlackBerry Flow and BlackBerry Hub

BlackBerry® Flow is a new user experience that allows seamless navigation across open applications and the BlackBerry® Hub. All messages, notifications, feeds, and calendar events come into the BlackBerry Hub and no matter what the user is doing with the device, with a simple gesture, they can peek into the Hub at any time.

BlackBerry Dev Meetings: A Peek Under the Hood

As a BlackBerry user, I tend to have a lot of BlackBerry information on my Twitter feed. Sometime last month, Alex Kinsella happened to tweet about a meeting of the Toronto BlackBerry developer Group in Toronto. Not being a developer, I was hesitant to sign up. Eventually, my curiosity got the better of me, and I attended. I’ve been to two meetings so far, and wow, am I impressed.

[Media Alert] 7digital will provide Music Downloading for BlackBerry & BlackBerry 10

By now you should all be aware of 7digital. At least those of you who own a PlayBook tablet. They provide the music store for BlackBerry PlayBook, main store of BlackBerry owners in the U.K. as well as offer a great experience for BlackBerry Smartphones (OS 4.6 to 7.1). I recently re-downloaded the app on my Bold 9930 OS 7.1 and was immediately impressed with the UI changes on v2.04.

So earlier this week at the 7digital Annual Event Ben Drury, CEO of 7digital (the leading digital music technology company) announced they (7digital) will be working with Research In Motion as the official music download provider for the BlackBerry 10 smartphones releases in Q1 2013. Pretty darn exciting if you ask us! Check out the full scoop below.
